Chic, minimalist design and a great in-house restaurant at a prime location.
From the outside, this hotel seems to be an old-world charmer. The exterior of the restored building, with its grand entrance pillars and intricate stonework, looks more belle epoque than avant garde. The interior of the hotel, though, is as different from the exterior as Old Montréal is from downtown. Elegant, chic and distinctively modern, the monochromatic design of this hotel could be described as minimalist with a dash of contemporary flair. No floral patterns here, rooms stick to sleek, simple light and dark colors. Unique, white shutters let in just the right amount of light along hardwood floors. All plush room furnishings are custom and unique to each accommodation. Stone sinks and large soaking bathtubs are commonplace in bathrooms. The hotel’s restaurant, Cube, is one of the finest in the quarter. Cube’s décor emphasizes, fittingly, the square shape. Besides being housed in a cube-like room, square salt and pepper shakers, wine coolers and just about everything else are housed within four equal sides. By the way, the St-Paul has an excellent location. Situated on the northern outskirts of Old Montréal, the hotel is a short walk from the Old Port, Chinatown and the hustle and bustle of downtown.
