Sofitel Montréal Golden Mile

A fusion of history and modernity on Sherbrooke street.

When an office building in the heart of Montréal’s central business district became available in 2002, Sofitel Accor Hotels hired Michelange Panzini Architectes to transform it into a contemporary work of art and one of Montréal’s most popular boutique hotels — Sofitel Montréal Golden Mile.

Located on the once-famous site of the Van Horne mansion on Sherbrooke street west, and at the foot of Montréal’s most famous landmark — Parc Mont Royal— the Sofitel Montréal combines sleek, modern allure with tasteful hints of the mansion’s past, including historical relics such as the lobby’s fireplace, bronze friezes in the restaurant and monumental wooden doors on the Presidential Suite.

The hotel makes it a point to focus on natural light (the lobby is made entirely of glass) and vast open spaces, transforming the building into a crystal by day and a lantern by night. All 258 rooms feature three-meter floor-to-ceiling windows, goose-down comforters, and many boast original works of art. The contemporary but warm décor is inspired by the French “art de vivre” concept at work in every Sofitel hotel around the world.

In addition to the regular rooms and suites, the Sofitel provides four meeting rooms, plus elegant ballroom holding up to 300 people each, which are available for summit meetings, conventions and galas.  Each room is named after a noted painter, so meetings can be held in the Chagall, Monet, or Pablo Picasso rooms.

In its signature restaurant Renoir, the hotel features Provençal cuisine, while Le Bar provides an elegant space in which to enjoy morning coffee as well as after-dinner cocktails.
