Hotel Real del Sur

Av. Division del Norte 3640 Mexico City

An urban oasis to the south of the city center.

There are very few hotels in the southern part of Mexico City. The Hotel Real del Sur, a reasonably priced 120-room establishment, is a notable exception. From the exterior, the hotel's imposing concrete facade hovers over Division del Norte, one of the city's most heavily trafficked avenues. Once inside, however, the hotel is a pleasant oasis, quite removed from the hustle and bustle. Rooms are arranged around a central atrium, which is decorated with hanging plants. Inside, each suite is outfitted with lacquered-wood headboards and king-sized beds. The look is a bit outdated but nonetheless comfortable and clean. Exterior rooms on the upper floors also have nice views of the city. The hotel has several restaurants and bars, including a tropical-themed bar in the lobby, which is accompanied by a man-made waterfall and shaded beneath a palm-roofed hut. There is also a small hair salon, a gift shop, a gym, and a nightclub. While the atmosphere is not suited to a romantic getaway, the hotel is well maintained and amiable, and may be among the best accommodation choices in the southern end of the city.
