We-Ko-Pa Resort & Conference Center
A more luxurious-than-expected business and leisure hotel next to the Fort McDowell Casino.
The name means “Four Peaks” in the Yavapai Nation language. And yes, it’s part of an Indian casino, and the building containing 246 rooms and suites is unoriginal and boxy, but spectacular views of the resort's namesake and iconic Red Mountains alongside the Verde River make this an elegant place. Resort touches include oversize rooms and suites in Sonoran desert colors, a pool, pretty lawns and gardens, the modern Amethyst Spa and fitness center, two championship golf courses and a club, and seven restaurants including the notable Ahnala serving Southwestern cuisine. The resort can get crowded, given the casino and the fact that the conference center spans 25,000 square feet. But guests can always escape with horseback trail rides, cattle drives and themed cookouts at Fort McDowell Adventures, a private 25,000-acre desert recreation area just minutes away.
