Inn at Avila Beach
Where Mexico meets the Mediterranean, California-style.
Perched just across the street from the beach, this funky Mexican-style hacienda is shockingly pink. But repeat guests insist that they won't stay anywhere else. The renovated yet decidedly retro rooms come with a bunch of fun goodies, including fluffy bathrobes and oversized bath towels, microwaves with bags of popcorn, refrigerators with bottled water, and large-screen TVs with VCRs. The courtyard rooms and one-bedroom apartments have kitchens for extended stays. The courtyard spa rooms are filled with extras, from whirlpool tubs to gas fireplaces; a few even have jungle or Mexican themes. If it's a view you're after, the oceanfront suites have canopy beds, and for extra-special occasions, there's the Owners Suite. Everyone can enjoy the hotel's rooftop sun deck with a wet bar, barbecues, hammocks, and ocean views. There's also a common library of books, magazines, and movies for guests to borrow. Local artwork is displayed throughout the hotel, which is within walking distance of everything. The staff can arrange for in-room massages and outdoor activities such as kayaking, fishing and sailing trips.
