A charming, no-nonsense budget motel.
Midway between San Francisco and Los Angeles, Morro Bay is a pleasant place to break a coastal drive. This two-story slate-grey building with sea-green trim is conveniently located on the town's main street. It's ideal for value-conscious travelers who are looking for a laidback escape near the beach. There are just seventeen guest rooms, all of which have been have been recently renovated. Some have floral color schemes with plush carpeting, while others sport more woodsy cabin décor. The bed sizes vary from doubles to kings, but all have good mattresses and comfy linens. Although the rooms are neat and clean, they lack air-conditioning. Another drawback is the motel's thin walls, which means this isn't the place for light sleepers. There are plenty of opportunities for getting outside of your room, however, including sea kayaking and mountain biking into the state park. Or go for a stroll along the Embarcadero, with its oceanfront eateries, art galleries, and boutique shops.
