Petit Soleil Bed & Breakfast
A taste of Provence in downtown San Luis Obispo.
In a chock-a-block row of typical business-oriented motels, this homey B&B is like a ray of sunshine. Step inside the cobblestone courtyard and it's like entering another world. All of the rooms have TVs, high-end bath amenities, high-speed wireless Internet access, CD radio players, and telephones with free local calls. Most are painted with bold primary colors and have fresh, clean-lined contemporary décor. The quietest rooms are those with queen-sized beds that are tucked farther back in the complex. The simplicity of the Van Gogh Room, with its black-and-white furnishings, is especially appealing. Beware that some other rooms suffer from passing traffic noise and the nearby train tracks, however. The newest lodging option is the Joie de Vivre Suite, which has a TV, fireplace, refrigerator, sofabed, and even a sound-spa machine. The inn's creative hot breakfasts feature ingredients from local farmers' markets, and the owners even publish their own cookbook.
