A bargain-hunter's find in downtown Cambria.
It's nothing fancy, but if you don't mind not being near the beach, this is the cleanest and most well-kept simple motel in the area around Hearst Castle. Rooms are in two-story buildings arranged around a parking lot off the main street in Cambria's East Village. Although these old-fashioned motel rooms don't have telephones or bathtubs, they do have comfy beds and cable TV. The creekside rooms, which have gas fireplaces and either balconies or patios, tend to be the most peaceful. There are small gardens for strolling and a fountain patio for relaxing in the sun with a book. Wireless internet access is available in the lobby lounge, which has a fireplace, a piano, and self-serve complimentary coffee for guests. The owners and staff are genuinely hospitable, and there's no minimum stay on weekends. The continental breakfast is limited, but here you're within easy walking distance of cafés and restaurants, as well as dozens of art galleries and boutique shops.
