Andaz West Hollywood

8401 W. Sunset Blvd. (N. Kings Rd.)

This rock-and-roll landmark holds court on the legendary Sunset Strip.

Massive in size and raucous in reputation, this former Hyatt offers a storied hotel experience to touring rock bands, celebrities and tourists alike. This urban property is located in the heart of the Sunset Strip, near such legendary venues as The Comedy Store and the Whisky A Go Go. Led Zeppelin once partied hearty here on the 11th floor while on tour, helping the hotel earn the nicknames "Riot House" and "Riot Hyatt." After a substantial redesign, this is now the first Andaz hotel in the U.S.

Many of the 257 spacious accommodations offer floor-to-ceiling windows for city views day and night (a welcome trade-off for the discernible street noise). Design is the public areas is seductive, with amber tones, mod furnishings and eclectic art. Instead of waiting in line at a front desk, guests are greeted by employees armed with laptops and glasses of wine in Riedel stemware, making check-in a pleasure. Room rates cover virtually all amenities, including local calls, Wi-Fi and even non-alcoholic beverages and snacks in the mini-bar; limited 24-hour room service is also available, and free espresso and pastries are served mornings at reception.

Riot House restaurant attracts more than just hotel guests with its farm-to-table California cuisine and commissioned Jacob Hashimoto art installation created from hand-painted discs. The hotel's hot spots are the rooftop pool and the Riot House bar, still lively but more subdued than in the days of those naughty rock stars rumored to have thrown TVs off the hotel's balconies. The property has 13,000 square feet of flexible conference and event space, including very hip meeting rooms, a Wine Gallery and the Panorama rooftop ballroom.
