L.A. hot spot Bar Covell features five intimate hotel accommodations in one of the city's trendiest neighborhoods.
For most hip hotels, a happening bar is just another required add-on. Here, the bar came first. Located in the artsy Los Feliz area between Hollywood and Silver Lake, the well-established Bar Covell attracts a hipster clientele with its excellent wine list and trendy digs. Entrepreneur Dustin Lancaster added five boutique guest rooms to the mix in a renovated 1930s apartment building perched directly above the bar itself. Intriguingly, each of the distinctively decorated rooms traces a different “chapter” in the life of fictional namesake character George Covell, from his imagined early days in Oklahoma through an illusory successful writing career in New York and Paris. Envisioned by interior designer Sally Breer of Co-Mingle, the residential-style suites reflect Covell’s journey with a blend of vintage and modern décor, and are brimming with quirky details such as cute SMEG refrigerators, kitchenettes, turntables with vinyl, high-end Parachute bedding and access to a charming rooftop patio. Guests receive a complimentary bottle of Covell house wine from the bar downstairs, and HomeState next door handles room service for breakfast tacos and coffee from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Bar Covell offers light bites from 5 p.m. to midnight.
