Nobu Ryokan Malibu
Sleek Japanese design enjoys a harmonious relationship with a soothing setting on Malibu’s Carbon Beach.
Celebrity chef Nobu Matsuhisa is a world-renowned name for his innovative Japanese-Peruvian cuisine. Next door to the chef's Nobu Malibu restaurant, Matsuhisa (in partnership with actor Robert De Niro and tech billionaire Larry Ellison) extends his hospitality expertise to the Nobu Ryokan inn. Private and serene, this sanctuary sits right on Carbon Beach in the tony community of Malibu just northwest of L.A.
Gorgeous Pacific Ocean views are among the many luxuries here, but the real star is the tranquil, Japanese design aesthetic. Each of the 16 guest rooms features a teak soaking tub, indoor/outdoor fireplace, terrace and discreet artwork. A fitness room and pool add to the setting's healthy atmosphere. This property was once home to the 1950s-era Casa Malibu motel, a landmark in its own right. Nobu Ryokan is one of the most exclusive hostelries in Southern California; it does not even offer a phone number, and reservations and inquiries must all be made through the inn's website.
