The Poolhouse at Villa Sophia
A fabulous private villa in one of L.A.’s trendiest neighborhoods.
Not everyone can afford the Brangelina lifestyle, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a taste of it now and then. Tucked into the Los Feliz hills (one of the trendiest neighborhoods in Los Angeles) behind fifteen-foot castle walls, The Poolhouse at Villa Sophia resides on the grounds of a 1927 Mediterranean estate. Entered by way of a private 500-square-foot grotto seating area crafted from ancient reclaimed terra cotta tiles, this 750-square-foot guesthouse (for two guests only at a time) offers the ultimate in privacy, with the exclusive use the private pool, hot tub and surrounding gardens. If the space looks familiar, that’s because it’s often in use, from Victoria Secret fashion shoots to scenes from “Entourage.” But when you rent it out, it’s all yours, including the million-dollar view over the pool to the downtown L.A. skyline and even the ocean on clear days. The guest villa was built in 2003 and features a stone fireplace, ten-foot ceilings, Venetian plaster walls, hand-forged iron sconces and custom cabinetry. Floor-to-ceiling iron doors open onto the pool, and high-end amenities include a state-of-the-art surround sound system, Wi-Fi, an iPod dock, DVD player, flat-screen TV and bathroom with a stone-and-marble shower room with a rain showerhead. Guests will find all of the basics of a standard hotel room, as well as a Nespresso coffee machine, microwave and wine fridge, the latter ideal for storing your complimentary bottle of wine. The property is located next to Griffith Park and offers easy access to the Griffith Park Observatory, four golf courses, the Greek Theater, two Frank Lloyd Wright museums and Richard Neutra’s famous Lovell House.
