Asilomar Conference Grounds
History unites with Mother Nature in this refuge by the sea.
Nestled along the Pacific on the Monterey Peninsula, this enormous (and historic) compound is surrounded by pristine beaches and forests. It is part of the California State Park system, encompassing 107 acres of coastline and ocean dunes on the shore of a marine sanctuary. The grounds' original Arts and Crafts-style hotels and conference centers were designed by Julia Morgan, who also designed Hearst Castle. The seven newer buildings were designed by John Carl Warnecke, an expert at combining nature and architecture. Rooms come in two varieties: "Historic," with hardwood floors, rustic furnishings and private baths, and "Asilomar," which boast private baths, balconies and fireplaces. The on-site Crocker Dining Hall is a reliable spot for hearty meals. Guests enjoy complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access and a heated pool (in season). In the surrounding area, wildlife such as seals, deer and whales are abundant. Ideal for groups, the property hosts an endless parade of business retreats, family reunions and weddings.
