An art gallery enjoys a second life as an inn on the Sonoma Coast.

Bodega Bay Inn

This quirky spot was owned and operated as an art gallery for more than twenty years by bon vivant Ruth Branscomb. Then, in the late 1990s, Branscomb’s grandson, Ted Duchamp, remodeled the property as a seven-room inn. Today, the arty history is omnipresent, with dozens of sculptures, paintings and tapestries for guests to enjoy. On top of this, most of the rooms are themed --- the Sonoma Hills Room, for instance, has images of green rolling hills on the walls; the Music Room has sculptures of musical instruments. All rooms have king-size beds, TVs and private baths. The inn also has a large collection of art books, board games, puzzles and decks of cards. Two lovely gardens, including an outdoor sculpture area, provide comfortable places to relax; at night, a fire pit is lit in the backyard. The inn is a short drive to the bustling marina in Bodega Bay, as well as dozens of wineries in Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley.
