Camellia Inn

An ornate ode to Victorian times.

Camellia Inn

This building was constructed by Randsome Powell in 1869 in Italianate Victorian style. It served as the town's first hospital, run by Dr. J. Walter Seawall. Since that time it has changed significantly, but the beautiful camellia garden remains, dedicated to the good doctor. In summer, this garden explodes with fresh flowers. Inside, the décor is nearly as splendid. Embellishments range from ceiling medallions to Queen Anne bay windows. Each of the nine guest rooms has been thoughtfully restored and individually designed. All have their own private baths with tiled showers. Furnishings include canopy beds, antique armoires and fireplaces. A full breakfast is served buffet-style in the dining room, and guests savor treats such as fresh-baked rolls against the backdrop of a majestic mahogany mantelpiece. There's also a swimming pool. The inn is central to the Russian River Valley, making it a great base for exploring wineries. Downtown Healdsburg is a short walk away; on Tuesdays, the town sponsors live music in the plaza.
