Hicksville Trailer Palace
Hicksville establishes its own version of trailer park chic with truly unique accommodations near Joshua Tree.
You’ve never seen a trailer park like this before, and Hicksville wears the title proudly. The brainchild of a Los Angeles writer-director and a music producer, this hipster trailer park/recording studio hybrid took shape in 2010 as an artistic retreat for creative types. The Joshua Tree location (kept a secret until you confirm reservations via the somewhat mysterious web site) offers a welcome escape from L.A., and a chance to explore the nearby park while getting in touch with the area’s rustic roots. Falling somewhere between camping and a Route 66 motel vibe, the property offers a handful of kitschy-cool themed trailers — from the Cramps-inspired “Lux” to the 1970s-ish “Sweet.” Film editing takes place in the “New World,” and heads up, you might encounter aliens in the “Integratrailor.” Guests are welcome to enjoy a seasonal saltwater pool, free Wi-Fi, ping pong, archery, fire pits and miniature golf. Even cooler — the property runs entirely on solar power.
