Triada Palm Springs, Autograph Collection

640 N. Indian Canyon Dr. (E. Via Altamira) Palm Springs CA

This luxurious retreat offers modern Hacienda-style living in downtown Palm Springs.

This boutique member of Marriott's prestigious Autograph Collection dates back to the 1920s, when venture capitalist David Margolius bought the property. What began as a private residence wouldn’t stay that way for long as Palm Springs was fast becoming a vacation hot spot. A decade after purchasing the estate, Margolius expanded it by adding a courtyard, which is part of the structure today. When it became The Ambassador Hotel in 1948, silver screen stars escaped to the hideout, putting the establishment on the map as a posh desert resort. Elizabeth Taylor even had her own suite with a stunning view of the San Jacinto Mountains.

Fast forward to the 21st century, and the Movie Colony property is now Triada Palm Springs. A full restoration has endowed the establishment with modern upgrades and amenities, while maintaining the classic elegance it was known for decades ago. The hotel boasts a Mediterranean hacienda look, with three wings – inspiration for the name Triada - that each have their own color scheme. The hotel’s philosophy is to resonate with the heart, mind and soul of its guests, so shades of blue (for the mind), orange (for the heart) and teal (for the soul) are seen throughout. The result: an atmosphere that inspires tranquility and bliss.

Bold patterns and rustic splashes of color enliven the 56 casita-style rooms and suites, which are equipped with 42-inch high-definition flat screen TVs, Keurig coffee makers, bathrobes, safes and private honor bars. Guests who book a suite will enjoy a full kitchen with stainless steel appliances, plus separate living and dining rooms. Beyond the accommodations, artwork by Picasso and Dali adorn the walls, private alcoves and an open-air library on the second floor of the lobby. Facilities include outdoor fire pits, two heated pools, a whirlpool, cabanas and secluded sundecks. All day dining and cocktails are available at Iluminara Restaurant & Lounge, with a menu of seasonal California cuisine and outdoor seating around the pool.
