Keating House

2331 Second Ave. (Juniper St.) San Diego CA

A taste of San Diego's genteel past in historic Banker's Hill.

This gracefully restored 1880s Victorian mansion now serves as one of the quaintest bed-and-breakfast locations in Southern California. Situated in what is known as Banker's Hill (so named for the many banking families that populated the area during the late nineteenth century), it is walkable to such notable attractions as Balboa Park, the San Diego Zoo, Hillcrest shopping, the historic Gaslamp District, Horton Plaza, Seaport Village and the Convention Center. Many excellent restaurants, pubs, coffee houses and theaters are also nearby. Common areas include a large foyer, parlor and dining room, each with its own fireplace and dramatic twelve-foot ceilings. There are nine guest rooms between the main house and the cottage. Room décor is more subdued and much more appealing than most bed-and-breakfast hotels; floral patterns aren't intrusive, but are used rather to accent warm, rich colors, white Victorian molding and tasteful antiques. All rooms have private bathrooms, and most have garden views. The small outside garden is an ideal place to start your day with complimentary gourmet breakfast featuring homemade bread, fruit and daily entrée.
