The Red Victorian

1665 Haight St. (Belvedere St.) San Francisco CA

Quirky Golden Gate accommodations embody the spirit of Haight-Ashbury.

The Red Victorian

All eighteen themed guest rooms at the Red Victorian (the “Red Vic,” to those in the know), in San Francisco’s legendary Haight District, embody the eccentric style of local Bohemians. The “Redwood Forest Room,” for instance, is designed to look like a forest, while the “Rainbow Room” has lots of --- you guessed it --- rainbows. A third, dubbed the “Butterfly Room,” is dedicated to the survival of threatened and endangered butterflies. Amenities are sparse; there are no televisions in the building, and only some rooms have private baths. A portion of all proceeds funds the mission of Peaceful World Foundation, a local group that attempts to bring together diverse travelers to teach, learn and model peace. Because the property technically is a bed-and-breakfast, all guests receive a complimentary morning meal.
