Historic estate lodgings at the edge of Ojai village.
This 19th-century-schoolhouse (Ojai's first) is now a boutique bed-and-breakfast situated on sprawling lawns covered in oak trees. With just seven rooms and one cottage, you're almost assured a restful stay, but what many guests love the most is the refined historic ambience. The living room has a fireplace near which you can read or tipple local vintages during the daily afternoon wine and cheese tastings. Each of the rooms in the main house has its own particular style. Most have flat screen TVs with satellite stations and DVD players, though not all have a private bath. The Arts & Crafts room delights with its rich earthy tones and Californian wood furnishings. The Classic Revival room has a writing desk and overlooks the gardens. Both romantics and families will revel in the Provence Cottage, which has everything needed for a weekend getaway, including a kitchenette, TVs, DVD and CD players, Wi-Fi Internet access and two bedrooms. Gourmet hot breakfasts often utilize fresh herbs harvested from the inn's garden, and the on-site Ojai Culinary School offers cooking classes. The inn also boasts a day spa. There's a two-night minimum stay on weekends.
