Casablanca Inn Bed & Breakfast of St. Augustine Florida
A rum-running legacy and romantic lodgings in this historic B&B.
There are two kinds of bed-and-breakfast-goers in this world: those who like the kind of places that put a teddy bear on your bed and those who don't. This establishment is for the former, although the latter will be happy to know that the bears are the only cutesy aspect of this otherwise tastefully decorated inn. While this 1914 home is described as Mediterranean Revival, its exterior feels like a melding of colonial and plantation architecture. The lovely front porch is furnished with rocking chairs and a hammock, and looks over passing horse-drawn carriages to Matanzas Bay. The view is particularly gorgeous at sunset. Of the 20 rooms and suites, those in The Coach House are a bit fussy, while those in the Main House are for the most part elegantly adorned. Hand-selected antiques, oak furniture and crisp white bed coverings provide a romantic and old-fashioned atmosphere. When you check, in, don't forget to ask about the Lady with the Lantern. She helped bootleggers during Prohibition and her legend is an integral part of the inn's history.
