1 Hotel South Beach

2341 Collins Ave. (24th St.) Miami Beach FL

A beautifully subtle makeover revives a beachfront Art Deco gem.

With structural roots that date back to 1925, the oceanfront building that houses 1 Hotel South Beach boasts quite a past. Adorned with a showy bell tower and copper dome, the former Roney Plaza was a prestigious destination for notable guests from its opening through the 1950s. Renovation efforts have preserved the property’s historic details, while natural elements create an eco-friendly stay through the innovative use of sustainable materials like reclaimed wood, found driftwood and organic cotton linens. The earthy terrariums in each guest room are an interesting focal point, and the décor echoes the nature theme throughout the common-space interiors with plant-based “living” art. Guests can even borrow binoculars and sky maps for stargazing from the beach. On the dining front, celebrity chef Tom Colicchio selected 1 Hotel South Beach for the site of Beachcraft, a farm-to-table eatery with a Mediterranean twist. The hotel also offers a rooftop bar, cantina-style poolside eatery and sexy lobby bar, as well as a fresh farm stand right in the lobby.
