Kent Hotel South Beach
A funky, retro hotel with lavender-colored rooms and a take-no-prisoners lobby.
Modern designer Barbara Hulanicki introduced bright, striking colors and funky, geometric furnishings throughout this 54-room boutique hotel. The symphony of shades and shapes is not for the timid, but rather for the adventurous and young-at-heart. This is one hip place --- just check out the sorbet-colored and velour-upholstered square settees arranged on the lobby's original terrazzo floors, or laze in a retro lounge chair in the vibrant garden courtyard. Spacious lavender-painted guest rooms include fully-stocked mini-bars, large work desks, cable TV, dataports and CD players with CD libraries. The 800-square-foot Lucite Suite has, as the name suggests, a whole lot of Lucite furnishings and accessories, accented with shiny mother-of-pearl. Standard rooms are decorated functionally, with wood floors and lightwood furnishings. They offer a relaxing contrast to the Alice in Wonderland quality of the lobby and public areas. Guests have complimentary use of the lobby computer. Dining options begin just a half block away at such establishments as La Marea at The Tides hotel, and continue along the length of Ocean Drive. The location puts The Kent near the heart of the world-class shopping and nightlife of the historic Art Deco District.
