The Setai

2001 Collins Ave. (20th St.) Miami Beach FL

Glamour and discretion welcome guests at this serene Miami hotel.

This luxury offering from hotelier Adrian Zecha is elite and divine. Although the building is Art Deco (it started life in the late 1930s as the Dempsey Vanderbilt Hotel), you won't find any pastel South Beach style here. Set in tropical gardens at the edge of the Atlantic, the whole place is all about a tasteful, understated Zen tranquility. The lobby pays tribute to Shanghai's Art Deco period, with Shanghai brick, teak, imported stone and Asian artifacts. The rooms and suites are done in teak, black granite and silk fabrics and come with in-room tubs for personal spa treatments, CD/DVD players, flat screen LCD and plasma TVs, Lavazza espresso makers and high-speed Internet access. In addition there are one-, two- and three-bedroom suites and a 10,000-square-foot penthouse with a rooftop pool and views of the ocean and Miami skyline. A 90-foot poolside bar runs the length of the pool. House restaurant Jaya serves global cuisine, uniting the flavors of Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, India, China and Japan. The Spa at The Setai is fabulous. And if you don't want to leave at the end of your stay, you can purchase one of the Setai Residences next door.
