Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
This hotel offers a unique African safari experience without having to leave the grounds.
It's not everyday you crawl out of a hotel bed, look out the window and come face-to-face with a giraffe. Outside of Africa, this can only happen in one of very few places: Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. Adjacent to the Walt Disney World theme park, the resort is set next to 33 acres of tropical savanna that's home to about 40 species of wildlife.
Artwork, music and food immerse guests in the safari theme. The majestic 5-story lobby, with its vaulted, thatched ceiling and huge tribal shield light fixtures, is alone worth a visit. More than 900 standard and deluxe guest rooms and suites overlook three savanna areas while African animals graze just meters away. The accommodations are typical for deluxe Disney resorts with many king, queen and bunk bed lay-outs, although in this case, they are decorated with rich woods, vibrant colors and handcrafted Zimbabwe furniture.
In addition to casual dining options, the resort offers upscale Jiko (Swahili for "cooking place"), featuring creative cuisines from Africa and around the world. Dedicated children's attractions include a 24-hour playground overlooking the flamingo area, an arcade, campfires, movies under the stars and four pools. Free transportation is provided to all Disney attractions. If you've always wanted to go on an African safari, but Kenya seems a tad far away, the compromise can be found at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge.
