Mission Inn Golf & Tennis Resort
A high-end, Spanish-style mission resort sequestered outside Orlando and close to antique shopping.
For those seeking a central Florida stay away from theme parks, consider the hill country forty-five miles west of Orlando--an area affectionately named Howey-in-the-Hills. With the development of the Mission Inn Resort & Club and the subsequent development of upscale homes surrounding the resort, the region is no longer just rural countryside. The softly rolling hills bordered by orange groves are reminiscent of the Scottish countryside and in 1992 the area was deemed a perfect spot for a golf course. The Mission Inn is aptly named since the building echoes Spanish-style architecture and incorporates a bell tower, stone verandas, magnificent archways and leafy landscaped courtyards. Close by is the quaint town of Mt. Dora, popular for both an annual art show and a large number of antique stores that includes Renninger's Antique Flea Market. Besides golf and tennis, guests can play volleyball, jog, swim, and bicycle or simply relax on the verandas of the tranquil lodge. Sailing and eco-adventures are arranged at the inn's Lake Harris marina. Three on-site restaurants succeed in offering gourmet dining experiences which include prime rib, seafood nights and an elaborate brunch on Sunday. Accommodations can be priced with or without golf included.
