Georgian Terrace Hotel

659 Peachtree St. NE (Ponce de Leon Ave.) Atlanta GA

Southern luxury mingles with a rich theatrical, film and operatic history.

Travelers can taste local history at Atlanta‘s grand dame of historic hotels, where stars ranging from Tallulah Bankhead to Enrico Caruso have rested their heads. Calvin Coolidge and Charles Lindbergh also slept here, and Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh checked in to attend the “Gone With the Wind” premiere at the Fox Theater across the street. Built in 1911 and restored to its original glory in 2001, this hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its rounded bedrooms have been updated with flat-screen HDTVs, complimentary Wi-Fi, pillow-top mattresses and full kitchens. In 2011, 103 rooms were renovated, losing their kitchens (built at a time when developers attempted to convert the property into condominiums). However, some guest accommodations still have cooking facilities. Additional in-room treats include duvet covers, walk-in closets and in some cases balconies overlooking Peachtree Street. The function space boasts its own rich heritage; in the 1970s the Grand Ballroom was known as the Electric Ballroom and hosted such greats as Bruce Springsteen and Fleetwood Mac. The menu at Livingston Restaurant + Bar makes the most of local flavors, and Café Mims offers light fare well into the night. Guests may bring a maximum of two pets weighing no more than 20 pounds each for a nonrefundable deposit of $75.
