Hotel Indigo - Athens University Area
LEED Gold certification and an innovative, fanciful design enhanced by local art.
Boasting LEED Gold Status, the Indigo Hotel in Athens (home of the University of Georgia) is a model for future hotels. Thirty percent of the structure is made from recycled content, and 43 percent is locally manufactured or uses extracted materials. Local artists produced work for the gallery, and local designers made sure the town’s music traditions were represented in the artwork that graces each room. A hometown coffee roaster, Jittery Joe’s, provides the in-room coffee. The Atlanta architectural firm of Surger Barber Choate & Hertlien drew inspiration from the area’s covered bridges for the building’s design, which also alludes to the university‘s red and black logo. Colorful and fanciful, the 130 rooms and twelve suites are the hotel’s foundation. There is also an on-site music venue where local music talent performs; as well, downtown Athens' some 30 music venues are within an easy walk. The outdoor terrace begs guests to spend time lingering over a cool drink and a good book. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel. The excellent breakfast features freshly baked breads, good juices and great coffee. The hotel charges a $75 (nonrefundable) fee for pets per stay.
