Sugar Magnolia Bed & Breakfast

When Debi Starnes and Jim Emshoff and their young daughter Samantha moved into this classic Inman Park Victorian, built in 1892, the couple immediately planned to make it not only their home but also a bed-and-breakfast inn. Inman Park, Atlanta's first suburb, was developed in the late nineteenth century, and its tree-lined streets offer delightful walking opportunities in good weather. Shops and fine restaurants abound. Turrets and porches, typical of Victorian architecture, grace this fine home, possibly designed by the Swedish-born Atlanta architect Gottfried L. Norrman for Col. T. W. Latham. Within, functioning pocket doors separate the octagonal entrance hall from a parlor that's now an office for the couple. A fine chandelier is suspended from a high octagonal ceiling. Upstairs, three suites are available for guests, the most dramatic being the Royal Suite, which shares a rooftop deck with the queen-bedded Garden Room. The Royal Suite also offers a two-person whirlpool tub. The Aviary has a private bath as well, but across the hall from the suite itself. Behind the house, the Cottage Suite offers dining and separate living areas, a loft bedroom, a two-person whirlpool tub and a full kitchen. Breakfast is usually simpler on weekdays and more fanciful during the weekends. Complimentary beverages are provided. In-room massages may be arranged.
