The Highland Inn
A quirky inn that recalls the clean, inexpensive lodgings of one's student days.
Originally known as the Wynne Hotel & Tea Room, the Highland Inn was built in 1927. An upgrade in 2005 added some king-bedded rooms and enhanced the furnishings and soft goods, carpeting and the historic ballroom, which provides space for weddings, business meetings and events. A charming courtyard lends the place a distinctive charm. Uniquely decorated guest rooms are clean and bright, and some have desks. Doubles offer two double beds in separate spaces, and are connected by a single Hollywood bathroom, accessible from either bed space. Both heating and air-conditioning are provided by individual units rather than a central system. Complimentary gourmet coffee and continental breakfast are served each morning, and Wi-Fi access is available in the common areas. The eclectic Poncey Highland area surrounds this lodging, offering restaurants, cafés, antique stores and art galleries. The adjacent restaurant, Café 640, serves quite good bistro-style food. This location appeals to artsy types and tight-budget travelers. While the lobby is quite dreary, the staff is young, spirited and friendly.
