The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee

This casual-luxe lodge boasts loads of activities for young and old on the shores of tranquil Lake Oconee.

"Linger Longer." That's what the family born to this land — 30 acres of Georgia shoreline — once called it. Home to the scenic waters of Lake Oconee and verdant stands of tall Georgia pines, the property now known as The Ritz-Carlton Reynolds, Lake Oconee is a haven where visitors can find the perfect balance of seclusion and pampering.

The legendary service of The Ritz-Carlton brand mingles with Southern charm in the 251 guest rooms. These accommodations include Club Level rooms with three executive suites that feature almost 900 square feet of space, king-size beds, separate living areas and additional half baths. Club Level rooms come with access to the Club Lounge for complimentary breakfast, light snacks, hors d'oeuvres, beverages and sweets, while all accommodations have creature comforts such as private terraces, custom-designed mahogany and cherry wood furniture, feather beds, 400-thread count Frette linens, granite and marble bathrooms, luxury bath products, flat-screen TVs, iHome docking stations and fully stocked honor bars with refrigerators.

Privacy can be found at the six Lakeside Cottages, each with a living room, butler pantry, wood-burning fireplace and porch with lake views. Perfect for families, the spacious, three-story Presidential House offers 5,400 square feet of living space, including four master bedroom suites with private baths, two additional guest baths, a formal dining room that seats 16, a living room with wood-burning fireplace, a first-floor Great Room with a pool table, game table, wet bar and large, flat-screen TV, a screened-in back porch and a private heated outdoor pool overlooking the lake. Paying tribute to the southern setting, the cottages and Presidential House offer the first and only The Ritz-Carlton BBQ Butler, a personal chef who assists guests in the selection of meat cuts, specialty sauces and sides, and then prepares a made-to-order cookout.

As for house dining venues and experiences available to all guests, there are six to choose from. Georgia's Bistro highlights Georgian-influenced dishes, the Linger Longer Steakhouse offers a classic, all-American experience, and Gaby's by the Lake serves a casual poolside menu. In addition, there is a Lobby Lounge for drinks and appetizers, and The Coffee Shop for pastries, ice cream and more. Chiminea Dining indulges with lakeside meals in Adirondack chairs around a private bonfire.

Relaxation is a priority at this property, beginning with signature spa treatments. The 27,600-square-foot spa facility offers water-themed therapies, body rituals, facials and massages, and includes a state-of-the-art fitness center. Outdoor activities range from calm to exhilarating, with s'mores by the lake, kayaks, pontoon boats, jet skis and Segway tours. A kids club and children's activities make the resort a top choice for families.

Another place where guests enjoy lingering longer is the links. The 99 holes of golf on the resort's five championship courses were designed by the game's most renowned architects, including Rees Jones, Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio and Bob Cupp. Guests can take lessons at The Reynolds Kingdom of Golf with "Golf Magazine" Top 100 instructor Charlie King, and get a club fitting at a TaylorMade Master Clubfitter, where the Motion Analysis Technology by TaylorMade (MATT) System is available.

With so much to do and see (and eat), we're not sure how anyone could get any work done on this property, but the resort makes it easy (if necessary) with plenty of extras for business travelers, including a 24-hour business center, computers, printers, scanners and high-speed Internet access. For meetings and conferences, the property boasts more than 18,000 square feet of meeting space, with more than 21 meeting and event venues, a technology butler and on-site audio-visual services. Our favorite space is the Sandy Creek Barn, a fully restored, rustic-chic barn from the 1920s. Clearly, this Ritz-Carlton is a place where work and play can find a balance, and where guests can customize their escape to meet their every need.
