The Brice Hotel, A Kimpton Hotel
The transformation and rebranding of an existing property has created one of Savannah's most appealing lodgings.
Kimpton Hotels has done a splendid job of transforming an existing hotel in a historic building into a modern, vibrant lodging that doesn't lose its sense of place. The "Secret Garden" provides a quiet, verdant outdoor space where guests may enjoy a lazy Savannah afternoon. This space is also a popular spot for weddings, and the guest rooms that front it are the best choices for wedding parties. The Brice's 145 rooms include 26 suites. All are spacious, ranging from 300 to 400 square feet, and come with oversized work spaces, ergonomic desk chairs and large flat-screen TVs. Luxurious Italian linens cover the pillow-top beds. Some rooms have private balconies or terraces, while soaking tubs or European showers add to the amenities in others. Choice accommodations enjoy views of Washington Square, one of the original Colonial-era squares. Our one objection is to the rather commercial "modern" art that adorns the walls; with the Savannah College of Art and Design so handy, much better work could easily have been chosen while creating an important link to a significant local institution. That said, we're happy to join fellow guests for Happy Hour from 5 to 6 p.m. in the hotel lobby, and to stay for dinner in the Italian-themed restaurant Pacci, which also serves breakfast and lunch. Pet-friendly beyond the norm, The Brice charges no pet fee, imposes no limitations as to breed or size, and offers a variety of pet-focused services.
