A dramatic location that evokes a Hawaii of centuries past.
Over an hour-and-a-half from either the Hilo or Kona airports, this secluded oceanfront resort is more than just a few miles away from the city lights, exciting nightlife and Big Island excitement. The payoff is that it does offer peace and tranquility, as well as a great golf course and an uncrowded atmosphere that is perfect for relaxation. The area is dry and sunny pretty much year-round, and temperatures can be rather warm at times. The famous Punaluu black sand beach is just a few minutes away, with a wonderful remote setting and sea turtles and dolphins. The property also offers easy access to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Guest units range from studios to two bedrooms, and all feature full kitchens, along with VCR and DVD players. The closest town is Pahala, a sugar-cane plantation village five miles away. A Buddhist temple, Wood Valley, where the Dalai Lama has come to speak, is about a ten-minute drive from the resort. This is a very dramatic area with wind-swept vegetation and thundering surf. It's a spot that stirs the imagination and allows glimpses into what ancient Hawaii must have been like. Sightseeing and shopping malls are located at least a half-day trip away in either Kona or Hilo, but regardless of which side of the island you prefer to visit, a rental car is most definitely necessary to access this remote area.
