A rural lodge near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Located less than an hour from Hilo Airport and a mile from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, this member of the Chalet Kilauea Collection is unique on the Big Island. It's a full-on country lodge that feels like it belongs in the wilds of New Zealand. It's located in the rainforest village of Volcano at 4,000 feet --- be prepared, as the air gets chilly here at night. The property is comprised of two historic buildings and quaint cottages. The oldest building has four bedrooms with well-designed private baths and chic country-inn décor. Next door to the original lodge is a contemporary seven-room building that has central heating, a library and a large common room with a huge fireplace and plenty of books. There's a hot tub for guests, too. In addition, there are two vacation cottages located off-property, both of which offer the same ambiance with a little more privacy. The restaurant and bar are popular with island visitors and locals alike. Specialties include lilikoi margaritas and exotic selections like leg of antelope filet and herb-encrusted rack of lamb.
