Maui Coast Hotel
A popular hotel across the street from the beach.
Popular with return visitors and neighboring islanders, this hotel offers comfortable accommodations, great service and many amenities. Located across the street from the Kamaole Sands series of public beaches and about a 25-minute drive from Kahului Airport (Maui’s largest) it has two restaurants, a large swimming pool including a children’s wading pool, free area shuttle, free Internet, parking and a fitness room, not to mention two lighted tennis courts. Because the hotel faces a busy road instead of the beach, views from the guest rooms are satisfactory but not memorable by any means. They are generously sized, though, and include daily housekeeping, air-conditioning, mini-refrigerators, ceiling fans, coffee makers, lanais and much more. Alcove suites and the one-bedroom suites are especially popular with small families and are frequently sold out. The largest restaurant on-site is Spices, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; Tradewinds Poolside Café offers lighter selections and is open for lunch and throughout the evening, with live Hawaiian entertainment is offered nightly.

When we last visited the Maui Brewing Co.'s brew pub in Lahaina, we were thrilled to hear this small company was making plans to package and sell their handcrafted product on the open market. Visitors to Hawaii have long enjoyed this microbrew's quality, but now it is steadily growing its market off the island.
When we think of vodka and pineapple, many good things come to mind: a tropical cocktail that combines the neutral spirit with pineapple juice, preferably served with a tiny umbrella; a pineapple-infused vodka; or biting into a pineapple that's been soaked in vodka for an adult tropical treat. But we never thought of vodka actually made from pineapple!
