Hotel Lanai

828 Lanai Ave. (Eighth St.) Lanai City HI

This historic, character-filled hotel provides a nice alternative to Lanai's luxury resorts.

Hotel Lanai in Hawaii is one of GAYOT's Top Ten Value Hotels in Hawaii

Since the island's Four Seasons resorts were built, this ten-room and one cottage plantation-era hotel has taken a bit of a back seat. Located in the center of Lanai city, it has no pool and is eight miles from the white sand beaches of Manele. However, it still has loads of charm and friendly service. It is close to shops and restaurants, not to mention the public nine-hole Cavendish course, where greens fees are on the honor system and no tee times are required. Built in 1923 as a retreat for Dole Pineapple executives, the Hotel Lanai recalls plantation days with white walls, tropical fabrics and slow-moving ceiling fans in each room (no air-conditioning). The hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast for guests, as well as tasty fare for dinner at its Lanai City Grille. Best of all, the property provides insight into a slower era when time was spent watching the sunrise, chatting with neighbors and gazing into the starry night sky.
