Hard Rock Hotel Chicago

230 N. Michigan Ave. (E. Lake St.) Chicago IL

Rock 'n roll lodgings in the heart of the Windy City.

This hotel offers a nice study in contrast. Its exterior preserves the landmark 1929 Art Deco Carbide and Carbon Building, while its interior reflects a more contemporary style well-known to aficionados of the Hard Rock brand. Although the hotel declares it will make you feel like a rock star, in fact --- thankfully --- it is actually a somewhat subdued destination. Sleek accommodations include Hard Rock rooms, designed to evoke the mood of an urban studio apartment, and tower rooms on private access floors. In addition, each suite is located on its own floor, with 42-inch plasma-screen TVs and sweeping skyline views. But even if you're relegated to a standard room, you'll still enjoy plenty of nice amenities, such as laptop safes and 27-inch flat-screen TVs with iPod docking stations. Surprisingly, you won't find a Hard Rock Café here. But BASE Bar offers live music. There is an on-site fitness center. Guests are treated to complimentary "USA Today" weekdays and the "Tribune" on weekends. On a final note: you have to love a place that names its meeting rooms after guitar makers --- Fender Ballroom, Gretsch Boardroom and so on.
