Celebrating wellness in Chicago’s hip Wicker Park neighborhood.
It may sound medieval, but alchemy --- the process of turning an ordinary material into an extraordinary one --- is alive and well at this boutique inn, which specializes in health and wellness, and employs a team of “healing, wellness and beauty alchemists” charged with transforming guests from weary travelers into well-rested ones. Along with the inn, which has eight modest guest rooms outfitted with goose-down pillow-top mattresses and 500-thread-count linens, the premises include a salon and spa where guests can pamper themselves with a haircut, facial or massage, or experiment with spiritual healing services offered by one of the spa’s resident “intuitive energy healers.” If you’d rather heal yourself, check out the secret garden in the rear of the building, which includes a relaxing labyrinth inlay and waterfall. Because relaxation is the goal here, the inn does not offer telephones or televisions. Nor does it have elevator or bell services, so guests with mobility issues should be advised. Ultimately, all of this may be a bit “New Age” for some guests; for others, however, it’s a welcome opportunity to not just rest, but renew.
