InterContinental Chicago

505 N. Michigan Ave. (E. Illinois St.) Chicago IL

A prestigious property with a prestigious Michigan Avenue address.

This building was constructed in 1929 and was returned to its original architectural grandeur by the InterContinental chain in 1990. There are guests who say the Art Deco swimming pool on the thirteenth floor is in itself worth a stay here. Though its tremendous size --- 807 rooms --- could work against it, there is still boutique charm to be found amid lots of luxury. The guest rooms, for one, are spacious and comfortable, not to mention pet-friendly. All have the amenities desired by demanding travelers: robes, mini-bars and 24-hour room service. Three restaurants on-site provide a variety of dining options: The Continental, serving American cuisine overlooking Michigan Avenue; Eno, which offers flights of wine, chocolate and cheese; and Michael Jordan's Steak House, serving steak on behalf of the Chicago Bulls' former frontman. For those with dietary restrictions, the hotel opened a kosher kitchen in 2012 that services banquets within the hotel, catering to meeting attendees who live a kosher lifestyle. For an extra fee, the hotel even offers events rabbinical supervision to stay over Shabbat. Located within a few miles are the John Hancock Observatory, Willis Tower, Navy Pier, the Shedd Aquarium and the Art Institute of Chicago.
