White Pines Inn
Log cabin luxury in a woodsy setting.
Have you ever wanted to retreat to the backwoods, away from telephones and email, but without having to give up air-conditioning in the summer, heat in the winter and the comfort of a mattress year-round? Built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, these cabins are rustic, comfortable and right in the middle of the Great Outdoors in northern Illinois' White Pines State Park. The majority of the log cabins sleep two adults in a queen-size bed and two children in a pullout trundle bed. Quad cabins offer separate sleeping areas with a common living area for families traveling together. Cooking is not permitted in the cabins, but there is an on-site restaurant just a short stroll through the woods. It serves up frontier-style dishes, including flapjacks, bacon and lake fish. During the day, guests can hike, fish or picnic. In the evenings, the inn puts on a dinner theater.
