The Lanaux Mansion

547 Esplanade Ave. (Decatur St.) New Orleans LA

An intimate nineteenth-century B&B straddling two unique and thriving historic neighborhoods.

The Lanaux Mansion

This imposing 1879 mansion has been lovingly restored by proprietress Ruth Bodenheimer, who dreamed of owning it since visiting it as a teenager. When Bodenheimer began renovating the rambling Italianate structure, she was thrilled to find many of its original furnishings and decorative items packed in the attic. Guests staying here step into a world that exists primarily in history books and romantic novels. In fact, General Robert E. Lee once dined here with the original owner. The house is located near the Mississippi River on Esplanade Avenue, on the edge of quirky Faubourg Marigny and across the street from the French Quarter. With its Victorian-style courtyard, it embodies the meaning of intimate --- there are only four rooms for guests. But this place is about quality, not quantity. Accommodations are beautifully done with period antiques and expertly chosen fabrics. All of the guest quarters have private baths and kitchenettes.
