Aloft Detroit at The David Whitney
A lively hotel in artsy Motor City environs.
The historic Daniel Burnham-designed David Whitney Building has a new resident. Aloft has taken over the lower half of the 19-floor landmark structure in downtown Detroit, transforming it into a 136-room hotel with a fresh modern look. Although efforts have preserved the building’s original character in hallways and other common spaces, the rooms definitely boast a contemporary edge with sophisticated décor and punchy splashes of color. All of the accommodations highlight desirable features such as “plug & play” connectivity stations, Aloft’s cozy signature beds dressed in luxury linens, and roomy bathrooms with walk-in showers and Bliss toiletries. The central location provides easy access to popular Detroit destinations including the convention center, the iconic Fox Theatre, Joe Louis Arena and the GM headquarters (skip the driving and hop on the People Mover just a block away). An on-site business center and meeting spaces cater nicely to business travelers, and the trendy W XYZ lounge provides a perfect perch in which to sit back and socialize over a drink and a snack.
