A stately Victorian with lovely valley views.

Rivertown Inn Bed & Breakfast

This grand three-story mansion was built by lumber baron John O’Brien in 1882. It is perched high upon historic Chestnut Hill overlooking picturesque Stillwater and the St. Croix River Valley. The inn offers a glimpse of the grand style of the Victorian era, as the owners have lavishly furnished the entire inn with gasolier light fixtures, hand-woven Oriental rugs, a mahogany grand piano and gothic European furnishings. Exquisite architectural details include hardwood parquet floors, leaded glass doors and arched stained glass windows. Eleven fireplaces have been set in period mantels. Each of the nine guest rooms and suites is equally extravagant, with a double whirlpool, fireplace and private bath. They are named after 19th century poets whose styles inspired their décor. The love and passion shared by Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her husband set the tone in one bedchamber, while the works of Lord Byron, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and William Morris lay the foundations for others.
