A stylish boutique alternative to the typical mega-Vegas resort.

For everything Vegas does have --- from white tigers to an exploding volcano --- one thing it sorely lacks is a boutique hotel scene. But that is gradually changing, helped along by the Artisan. This non-gaming hotel has just 65 rooms and suites, and each one of them is unique, themed by the artwork it contains (reproductions, of course), including Cézanne, Chagall, Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Renoir and Van Gogh. The tone set by the art-filled lobby is early nineteenth-century Parisian Left Bank. Mood Restaurant serves American favorites with an international twist, and Artisan Lounge has its own humidor and dark corner booths for romantic rendezvous. Surrounded by oversized daybeds and cabanas, the pool is of a kind you might find in Palm Springs, classy and not massive, unlike the vast beach expanses at many nearby resorts. Keep in mind, though, that the pool deck hosts a live DJ in the evenings, so this hotel might not be the best choice if you’re looking for a tranquil night’s sleep. Expect a very cool crowd here, especially when weekend events call for an “indie-friendly dress code.” And while this hotel is an anomaly in Las Vegas, it doesn’t depart too far from the norm. It even has its own chapel and wedding garden for those who want something more intimate than The Little Church of the West. While Las Vegas Boulevard is within walking distance, the heart of the Strip is not.
