Casa Europa Bed & Breakfast Inn & Gallery
Stupendous views and artfully decorated rooms distinguish this tranquil inn from others in Taos.
Although it's a short drive from Casa Europa to Taos's historic downtown filled with galleries and restaurants, this Spanish Colonial estate sits well away from the fray, on a bluff on the west side of town, nestled beneath a grove of mature cottonwood trees. From the grounds, you can enjoy magnificent views of the high-desert mesa to the west, and the cloud-scraping Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east. Hosts Joe and Lisa McCutcheon have created a warmly furnished, luxurious, but informal retreat consisting of seven large rooms and suites. These contain working fireplaces, a mix of fine European and Southwestern antiques, bathrooms with marble tile (two have whirlpool tubs), and beautiful rugs and textiles. From your room, you can wander amid the fragrant gardens and fountains, or take a dip in the hot tub and enjoy the Swedish-style sauna. A full breakfast is served in the atmospheric 18th-century dining room.
