Moderate Hotels in Taos
Literary and art history come alive at one of the most historic B&Bs in Taos.
This rambling historic home was once owned by Taos arts patron Mabel Dodge Luhan and her husband Tony, who hosted a number of literary and artistic luminaries over the years, including Frank Waters, Willa Cather, D.H. Lawrence, and Georgia O'Keeffe. The oldest among the compound's three buildings dates to 1804. There are eleven rooms set among the different adobe buildings, each brimming with character and filled with fine Southwestern antiques. Three of the units have Jacuzzi tubs and four have their own private steam rooms. Most have kiva-style wood-burning fireplaces, and all have CD players, fluffy robes, and colorful hand-woven rugs. The grounds are studded with fragrant cottonwood, elm, and blue spruce trees as well as lilac bushes and pretty floral gardens bursting with tulips and daffodils—it's a wonderful property for a walk on a sunny summer afternoon. Included in the rates is a tasty home-cooked breakfast, and guests enjoy free use of a nearby health club with pools, exercise classes, tennis courts, and a full slate of equipment.
