Located near the bars, this hotel does not live up to its name.
Like so many of the area’s hotels, this property started life as a rooming house. In fact, it’s one of the oldest hotels in town, and it accommodated Arthur Silsdorf before he became mayor of Ocean Beach for 22 years running. The glory days are long gone, and this is now a simple hotel with spartan accommodations. The 12 rooms are sparse, and it’s just as well. Chances are you’ll want to stay out all night, since the music from the Hideaway downstairs will keep you awake unless you have industrial-strength earplugs. During the day the Hideaway attracts a less rambunctious crowd with its fresh seafood offerings. It’s a pleasant place to sit outside and watch the seagulls fly by.
