Hilton Manhattan East

304 E. 42nd St. (First & Second Aves.) New York NY

A historic 1931 property that has been refreshed with big-hotel-chain comfort and convenience.

For those who want the world (or, at least, the United Nations) at their doorstep, Hilton Manhattan East is the place to stay. Just a few blocks from U.N. headquarters, the hotel is also a quick walk from Grand Central's subways and trains (and stunning waiting room). Though the Hilton definitely targets a business crowd, the location is also tourist-friendly (especially if you're a tourist who likes a good urban trek). Midtown attractions both worldly (Bloomingdale's) and attached to a higher power (St. Pat's) are within a mile's walk. Formerly the Tudor Hotel at the United Nations, the property underwent a significant renovation to bring it up to Hilton standards. But the 1931 building retains its old NY charm, not to mention that some rooms still have private terraces. The 300 accommodations feature flat screen TVs, MP3-friendly clock radios and desks big enough for you to actually get work done. They also offer expected Hilton comforts like Sealy Posturepedic mattresses and fluffy duvets. The neighborhood is restaurant rich, but for guests who prefer to dine in (or in their room), the on-site Tudor Bar & Grill serves American and Continental cuisine.
