Hilton New York Fashion District
Project Runway fans will go gaga for this fashion-themed hotel.
We're not always big on theme-y hotels, but when they're done well, we're happy to celebrate the result. This one has us in stitches. Sitting pretty in, of course, the Garment District near FIT, the hotel will appeal to aspiring clothing designers or, of course, the people who watch them on Project Runway. Equal parts Mondrian and fashion history, the lobby welcomes guests with a rush of NYC energy. Fortunately, the designers toned it down for the guest rooms. Accommodations are relaxing with a masculine touch. Even the dad of an aspiring fashion designer won't mind a night or three here. In-room amenities include Frette bedding and robes, Keurig coffee makers, iHome docking stations and 37-inch flat screen televisions. Complimentary Wi-Fi and roomy desks make Fashion 26 a good choice for business travelers, too. Model types may want to steer clear of the hotel's restaurant, Rare Bar & Grill, which serves calorific (and delicious) burgers and ever-so-tasty fried pickles. Of course, they could always follow up with a visit to the 24-hour fitness center. Some of the best seats in the house are at the Rare View rooftop bar. There's also a small lobby bar that, while not a must-visit, is a pleasant enough place to spend some time chatting with friends or at least waiting for them.
