This Ian Schrager hotel offers the designer's signature style at budget (for NYC) rates.

A Queen Guest Room at PUBLIC New York

Travelers on a budget need not expect less at this exceedingly stylish property. Created by Ian Schrager (the co-originator of Studio 54 and the hip hotel genre), the goal of this lodging brand is to provide an upscale urban experience without the terrifyingly high price so many NYC hotel's demand.

The look is clean and somewhat Scandinavian, both comfortable and serene at the same time. All of the Queen, King, Loft and Suite guest rooms are impressively stocked: 50-inch flat-screen LCD smart TVs with Apple TV, triple-glazed windows to block out city noise, blackout shades, Bose wireless Bluetooth speakers, safes and personal coolers.

The dining scene is especially notable, with an on-site PUBLIC Kitchen from celebrated chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The menu focuses on dishes from a wood-burning oven and wood-burning grill. In addition, Louis is a coffee shop/luncheonette serving an organic, slow food menu; Diego is a modern, clubby lounge; the Lobby Bar has the feel of an upscale living room; and The Roof is a sexy bar with some of the best skyline views in New York. PUBLIC Arts, a multi-media performance space, is available for live music, art exhibitions, product launches and more.
